Charles E. Barnee, of Lansing, fctate jnaster workman of the knights of labor, has issaed a cali recently for a labor congress to be held in Detroit in August or September next. All trades unions, labor organizations, and farmer associat%ns of the state are asked to send three délegates each. The work of the congress will be conflned strictly to the framing oí bilis to be presented to the sext legislatura and the proposing of amenamente to existing unjust laws. Made up, as it is hoped it will be, of delegates of all sorte of labor organizatione, it can hardly be euspected of having any secret political design. Those who are acquainted with Mr. Barnes know tbat he is sincerely engaged in doing all he can to work out a better order of things as regards labor. He writes to The Register se follows : " We commence this early in order to gire all labor organizations an opportnnity of unitipg in the -work if they íeel so disposed. It may be that we will so change the representaron as to give all unions and assemblies one delégate." He further says that the proposed congress is an experiment, for the reaeon that it is very difficult to get the Tarious branches of organized labor to unite. Washtenaw county has some Tery active farmers' clubs, and it has one or two unions and knights of labor assemblies. We hope that each one willsend at least one delégate. It would be a good idea if they were to select delegates early and have a series of discuseions looking to the work of the congress. Correspondence with Mr. Barnes and other leaders in the movement concerning probable measares to be discus eed is also advisable. If this all be done, each delégate will be somewhat prepared, when the congress convenes, to take an intelligent part in the work.
