Another Pioneer Gone
Merritt Perry, one of Washtenaw's earliest settlers, died at his home in Perry, Shiawassee county, March 8, at the age of 77 yeare. He was bom in Saratoga county, N. Y., June 12, 1810, where he lived until six years of age, when he removed, with his parents, to Genessee county, N. Y., where he resided ten years. At the age of 16, he carne west to carve out his fortune in Michigan, arriving at Ann Arbor, Nov. '3, 1826. He selected as his home 80 acres on section two, township of Lodi. In 1834 he married Malona Whitcher, who died in 1843, leaving one child, now Mrs. John Herbert. In 1850 he married Lydia Jane Harmon, who, with two children, K. D. and Ellen U. Perry, survive him. He resided on the same farm on section two, 54 yeara, when he removed to Perry, Shiawassee county, where he has since lived.
