Boutelle ooe of the assistant secretarles. The second congressional delegates had ltttle trouble in getting J. K. Boies, of Hudson, elected delégate at large to the national convention. They had to make very few combinations to briug it about. The great fight of the day carne when the fourth delegate-at-large was to be elected. M. S. Crosby, B, il. Cutcheon, James M. Turner and Mr. Dunston of the U. P. had their following, and it was a long and hard struggle. The U. P. man was elected because of location. The election of R. E. Frazer, of Detroit, was conceded generally, because he s expected to present Gen. Alger'a name at the Chicago convention. The election of W. Q. Atwood, a rich and respected colored gentleman of Saginaw, ag delegate-at-large, was looked upon as a proper recognición of the colored vote in Michigan. The convention was stormy, and the chairman, E. S. Lacey, of Charlotte, had to retire from pure exhaustion.
