THE FIELD OF POLITICS. St. Paul, Minn., July 12. - Ex-Congressman Mark H. Dunnell was yesterday nominated for Congress by the Republicans oi the First district. Griffin, Ga., July 12.- The Democrats oJ the Fifth district yesterday renominated John D. Stewart for Congress. i Gallatin, Mo., July 12.- A. M. Dockery was renominated for Congress yesterday ;by the Demócrata of the Third district. i Saratoga, N. Y., July 13.- The State convention of Republican clubs met here, 'President R. R. Heflord, of Bufalo, in the chair. President James iP. Foster, of the National League ;of Republican Clubs, spoke briefly. 'President Hefford followed Mr. Foster. Resolutions indorsing the Republican platform and ticket were adopted. Delegates to the National convention of Republican clubs at Chicago were chosen. The report of the secretary shows that there are 550 Republican clubs in the State, with an aggregate membership of seventy-five to eighty thousand. ' Washington, July IS. - Hon William H. jBarnum, the chairman of the National Democratie Committee, has appointed the following named gentlemen as the Campaign Committee: William L. Scott, of Pennsylvania; Arthur :P. Gorman, of Maryland; Matt W. Ran'som, of North Carolina ; Calvin S. Brice, ol Oblo; John B. Barbour, of Virginia; Hermsnn Oelrichs, of New York; Miles Rosa, of New Jersey ; Arthur Sewal, of Maine, and Erskine M. Phelps, of Illinois. Raleigit, N. C, July 18. - J. T. Morehead has been nominated for Congress by the Demócrata of the Fifth district. Chicago, July M. - A very largely attended meeting took place last night at Battery D, in this city, to ratify the Prohibition nominees. Clinton B. Fisk, the Presidential candidate, John A. Brooks,nominee for Vice-President, D. H. Harts, J. L. Whitlock and Miss Francés Willard made addresses. New Windsor, 111., July 16.- A. J. Streeter, candidate of the Union Labor party for President, has written a letter of acceptance, in which he says that if he is elected the Government will be administered more in the interest of the great common people, but not to the injury of any class; that a Government that does not aid its industrial and working people to pay their debts is not a Government of the people and is unworthy of their support. He íurther declares for a revisión of the tariff laws, and that protection should be given where needed and the tax reduced wherever it can be safely done. He also declares in favor of temperance, better morality and higher Christian civilization, and says arbitration should take the place of strikes. Detroit, Mich., July 18.- The grand council of the Independent Labor party of the United States met here to decide upon their policy for the coming campaign. After discussing the platforms of the Republican and Democratie parties President Taylor moved that Harrison and Morton be indorsed as candidates of the Independent Labor party for President and Vice-President. The motion was seconded by Mr. Stoddard, and carried unanimously. Resolutions were adopted declaring that the Labor party does not approve of President Cleveland' s veto of pension bilis; that the interests of working-men can best be served by a protoctive tariff, and that every soldier ought to vote for Harrison, who served his country on the battle-field, instead of Cleveland, who sent a substitute. The council re-elected its old ofticers and adjourned subject to cali. Princetox, 111., June 18.- The Seventh district Prohibition convention nominated A. H. Hansen, president oí the college at Fulton, for Congress. Brazil, Ind., July 18.- The Democratie Congressional convention for the Eighth district nominated E. T. Brookshire, of Montgomery County, for Congress on the 138th ballot. Alhany, N. Y., July 18.- The Legislatura assembled in extra session. The Governor's message related solely to the subject of making an appropriation to próvida work for the convicts in the prisons of the State. New York, July 18.- The National Democratie Campaign Committee met in this city yesterday and elected Calvin S. Brice, of Ohio, ehairman.
