The Democratie senatorial convention of Washtenaw and Monroe counties met in Milan Tuesday. Senator Gorman, of Chelsea, had the ropes set up so that he received 16 votes on the first ballot, and 17 on the second, out oL 30. There was no bubbling, spontaneous joyousness in renominating him. üa the contrary, there was plenty of half suppress ed " kicking," especially among the young Democrats. This opposition was sternly repressed by the machine by metbods that must be galling to an independent spirit. Gorman wa9 the whisky champion through thick and thin in the legislatura at its last eession, but the ground of opposition to him, Tuesday, was hia action as chairman of the county convention in favoring the nomination of Lehman for proeecuting attorney; and there was also much said about bis hogtile action in the legislature to the Catholic chureb. He is said to have introduced a bilí to regúlate Catholic and other church property in Michigan, against which an enormous petiion went in. It was denounced by the üatholics as an attempt " torevolationize" nstead of " to regúlate." The Democrats who were to represent iVashtenaw in the convention are ae folows : F. A. Howlett, N. E. Sutton, E. ï. Norris, G. B. Greening, George ichwab, Eugene Donegan, L J. Liesemer, '. D. Kearney, B. F. Watts, J. L Duffy, "rank Joslyn, Alfred Davenport, Jacob ínapp, Henry Paul, J. O'Brien, N.
