The Chicago Times recently sent one of its rustiest men through the State of New York to gather the public sentiment of the people on the political issues. His report is any thing but favorable to the Democrats. From the report we take thefollowingparagraphs : To be perfectly frank about it, it is not road daylight yet in the State of New York for Mr. Cleveland. It is well enough to bo anguine, but that doesn't carry an elecion. There are many reasons why one nay be induced to bclieve that Mr. Cleveaud will carry the State. There are somo asons which are calculated to make Mr. Cleveland's friends stop and inquireinto the ituation. If 'Jlocal pride" does any thing good for larrison in lndianapolis and in Indiana here must be a different sentiment and ondition of things thereaway than any hing which I can find here for Cfeveland. ror it is evident that Mr. Cleveland is not 9 strong even in his own party in Western ïew York as be was in 18S4. You can reach about a man voting this or that ■icket from principie, but the old-fasbioned, mmp-baeked and ugly iact remaius just he same that a man works for his party because he expects something trom it for himself or for his friends. It is a fact that Mr. Cleveland did not give his friends in thia ection any thing nor their friends any hing. I do not think many Repubüeans voted for Cleveland in Western New York four years .go, but am told that such as did will be ound this year again in their own party 'anks. 1 have seen some of these Repubicans, and they say: "We helped you folks ;et Cleveland tbere, but we didn't enter m0 any bargain to keep hlm there. If tha emocratic party hasn't been smart enoutfh o flx things that is no f ault of ours. We :ve them the boost."
