The death of Lewis E. Childs, of Ypsilanti, on Feb. 1, in the 53d year of his age, cailed to the last muster another of those who bravely stood between armed rebellion and our loyal homes. He entered the service of his country during the first year of the rebellion as a lieutenant, was soon promoted to captain and served for the term of three years. He with his regiment passed through many hardships in the army of the Cumberland. After the batile of Chicamauga he was reported as "mortally wounded and missing," a musket ball having passed through his body. Notwithstanding the fact that the ball passed through his left kidney he lived for over twenty-five yp.ars and during that time was a suc;ess(ul business man. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, a mnn cf strong will, good judgment, high honor and intesrity. His was ihe Hon. Aaron Chil is, wellknown ia this state. Hi brother is Col. J. W. Childs, now of vVnshington, D. C. Wm. E. Childs and Mrg. Rjbert Campbell, of this city, are his brother arid sister. Ot his family, a wife and son, and an aged mother ; three brothers and three sisters mourn his de;th. A post mortem exsmination showed that the rebel bullet was the direct caue of hi death.
