The holding of this convention grew out of the action taken at the International convention held in Chicago in 1887, which instructed the Executive Committee to inquire into the practicability and wisdom of holding such a convention, and recommended ttat it should be held if Buitable arrangements could be made on the other side of the water. The Executive Comrnittee took such action as led to the issue of a preliminary cali by the ijonaon öunaay-Bchool Union on behalf of all parties interested.
