BERATH IN EXTKA SESSION. 'Washington, March President Harrison yesterday sent the following nominar tions to the Senate: Thomas W. Talmer, of Michigan, tobe Minister to Spain: John F. Swlft of California, tobe Minister to Japan; John D Washburn, of MassachusettR, to be Minister to Switzerland; George Tichenor, of IUinois, to be Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, -iee Isaac H. Maynard resigned. The nominations were retened to the appropriate couimittees. OTHEK NOTES. Andrews, GJomptroller of Currency. Washington, March 9.-Postmaster-General Wanamaker has purchased the residence of Secretary Whitney for 80,000. March 11.- During the lïftieth Congresa just ended nearly 000,000 was appropriated for the construction and improvement of public buildings. The Committee on Public Buildings gave its Bancöon to bilis oarrytng appropriations ranging trom öO,000 up to sevcral milliona and aggregating $15,714.1)00. About onehalf of these bilis passed both Houses of CongresR during the fiist session, while daring tbe second session the aggregate appropriation tor public buildings was about $3,000,000.
