The Board Of Education, Tuesday

Dg, decided to adopt Harper's series of readers in place of Appleton's which bare been in use here 1 1 years. There has been mach competition between the two houses for some time to get the favor of the school board here. C. F. Newkirk, formerly editor of the South Lyoa Excelsior, is Harpers' gent, and worked tl e scoop on the Appletorp. Harper's will present eaoh ward school library in the city with a fine collection of books. The dnpa'ches vesterday had the following from New York city : "Recorder Smvth, in the Couit of General Sessions, to-dayhanded down his decisión disallowing the demurrer to the indictments against Mrs. Friend and the others interested in the electric sugar fraud, and denying the motion for their discharge. They will now be compel'ed to plead and stand trial."
