inspection of beef on foot within the state before being killed, was defeated in the Ohio senate by a vote of 13 to 16, on April 11. The bill orïginated in the House and passed that body by au altoost unanimons vote. The Registee is in receipt, froin the Secretary of State's office in Lansing, of a copy of the Michigan Manual for 1889. It is a welcome addition to any shelf for books of reference. It contains all the well-known features of this publication, even the biographies of the distinguished patriota who are putting in their time in Lansing making law. An interkstinq decisión which will stand as a precedent in Michigan unless overruled by the supreine court, was made by Judge Reilly in Detroit Monday, in the case of Weise against Rich. The goods of Weise & Co., corner of Fort and Randolph sta., were damaged 82,000 by leakage in the roof, although Rich, the landlord, had been repeatedly notified of the leaks and had caused repairs to be made. A verdict was rendered for Weise. Defendants asked reversal on the ground that the evidence showed they employed skilled workreen todo the repairing. Judge Reilly sa:d that in some stut s I his vsould constitate a good defen.se, hile in others it wculd not. 11e would take the latter view i:nd decide that it was the landlord's daty to see himself to the repairing, and io stand the loss if the repairs were not perfect.
