A meeling of a number of prominent citizens was held on Monday evening to di.wuss .he feasibility of introducing the study of Germán in the ward schools ot the city. Ottmar Eberbach presided and a number of persons advocated the measure. It was finally decided to pre ;nt a memorial to the school board asking that a trial be made. The committee appointed consisted of the following members : E. Baur, C. Ge rg, T. J. Keech, F. H. Belser and H. HutzeL The followinc communication has been handed in by the committee tor publicttion : There is a movemement on foot, emanating from some representative citizens, to introduce Germán in two ward schools at least. It Is proposed to pay an extra tuitlon for this privilege Wherever the Germán has been studied in connectionwith the English language the experience taught that the study of tne English language is more successful and satisfactory. There is do doubt that sueh a movement in a Universitv town like ours will bewelcomed by many citizens of different nationalities; and outsiders will eeek homes at Ann Arbor to avail themselves of this rare opportunity for the benefit of their children. The number of persons visiting Germany for business, recreation, health and especially study, is enormouslj increasing. A knowledge of the Germán lanéuage therefore. acqulred in early childhood, wnere the dimculty of pronouncing is easily overeóme, is a treasure in itself.
