Baltimobe, Md, Sept.10.-The six-days' celebratlon of the annlversary of the defense of Baitimore haa begun. The events to be celebrated are of National importance and the fact that one of thein, the bombardment 'ol Fort McHe-iry during the war of 1812, inapired ttat patriotic outburst iu song, the "Star Spangled Banner," is suïflcient of itself to give to the Baitimore festival the National interest which has been recognized in the participation of President Harrison and the efforts of te War and Navy Departments to contrfbute to its success. The party whioh carae over from Washington in the private car "Baitimore" consisted of President Harrison, Secretarles Windom ard Tracy, and Marshall ltansdell. Private Secretary Halford was ill and could not attend From the depot the President was escorted by the reception committeeto the grand stand. There were 15,000 men' and 1,000 floata in the procession. Atter it had paesed the reviewing-stand the President was conveyed to the Eennert House, where a banquet was spread. One hundred and. fitty prominent citizens and guests were at the table. Following the dinner carne a reception at the city hall, where the President shook hands with 2,500 men, women and children. At7:3Jthe President returned to Washington. He was wildly cheered as he left the city hall. Mrs. Harrison was n the city lor a short time, but left tor Washington with Secretary Windom on an earlier train.
