This is the aspect of Mr. Cameron's character which it is pleasantest to dweil on, and it s the one by which he will be best and longest reiuerrjbered. At one time he liad enemies both ín his own party and out of it, but he disarmed them all as the years went on, simply by h3 warm heartedness and his helpfulness to others. When he passed his 90th year, three months ago, it is probably not too much to say that everybody who knew hun sent congratulations, rnental]y at least. His was a lifo long and stormy and full of excitement till 1877, when he retired from politics to let Lis son Donald become senator from Pennsylvania. "His son reigned in his stead." Strangely enough, in his youth he was very delicate, and so weak that he could not pull the lever of the old hand presses which were used when he worked at Iiis trade of printer. Vet by living temperately as to his body, and plunging into the swirl up to his üps nsentally, and moving forward with it always, he lived to hisgreat age. His recipe for keeping all his powers so perfect ly has been mentioned bef ore. It was, "Associate with young people and keep ,'omg-" In the tield which he chose he was Btrongest as a political manager. In business enterprises and in politics alike, h8 greatest quality was his unerring judgnient. It seoraed indeed infallible. Certainly now every one can say of him what he said of himsolf, at a dinner party in honor of his 72d birthdaj : I have made It a rule of Ufe to be kind to ever? one and considérate of alL Yet I have made enemies, beeauM 1 uave had opinions and asserted them. But this bas brought me friends also. I have liveü long Bod seen much of life. and lien 1 am goue all I ask La tliat peoplocan say that I did the best 1 oouW and was ever true to my obliga tions and my firteadA.
