The state is probably spared the expense of caring for one insane man, who was to have been taken to the asylum by Superintendent Mason, Tuesday. The man, who gave his name es John Martin, made 'ais appearance at the ounty house Nov. 6, coming from nobody knows where. He became snolent at times and it was decided to send him to Pontiac as a state charge. Mr. McCormick brought the man here Tuesday and left him in the probate offica in charge of a pauper while he went to notify Mr. Mason. Having some other business to attend to, it was some time before Mr. Maon was able to get around and see about the patiƫnt. The pauper, who has a peculiar weakness for intoxicatipg liquors, etood guard for a time and tben decided that he would go and quench his thirst. He went and forgot lo return, acd the Martin, finding no one to oppose him, concluded that he would go also. When Mr. Mason went to the office after Martin, intending to take him to Pontiac on the next train, neither Martin nor his l:eeper could be found. The pauper was finally brought to light, but a careful search failed to bring forth Martin, who has probably ooncluded that he would take up his residence elsewhere than at the Pontiac asylum. If he is captured he will be sent to the asylum, but Mr. Mason thinks he has left the county and will keep away.
