People have been wondering wliy the appointment of E. E. Beal as postinaster is not coniirmed. The daily papers are scanned with eager eyes to discover the first ajinouncement of the change that was expected at least two weeks ago. It is suggested that Congressman ( Allen ruay have heard the mutterings of the storm, and have listened to the advice of some sage friend, not to crowd this matter in too great haste just now. Perhaps he has been asked a question or two by the appointing powers at Washington as to the history of the man he recommends - as to his qualifications for the position, and so forth, and found himself a trifle embarrassed las replies. He may have been asked, (as employers often do ask when hiring new men) how suecessful his candidate has been in the different business transactions he has heretofore carried on, and how much managerial talent he displays in the position he now holds - whether he issatisfying his employer or not? Perhaps he may have been asked if it was necessary for the Courier to satisfy certain conditions under which it is said to hold its great property, to turn this relative over to the support of the public ? Perhaps our ('ongressman may have had a dream, and in his night visions have seen his constituents at Ann Arbor, prosperons and contented, -with "fences" all in good repair, with a postmaster pleasing to nearly every one ; gladly casting their ballots every two years to continue in their service at Washington the man who took a sober, second thought and afterwards decided to name a candidate satisfactory to his entire party and an honor to the position. Something üke this may have caused the delay.
