The Sentinel occupies new quarters over the U. 8. expreas office. H. G. Van Tuyl of Detroit spent Friday with friends in this city. C. A. Coryell left last Thursday for a short visit to his old home, Grand Rapids. Mrs. Geo. Hodge, neè, Champion, is now a student at the Normal Conservatory. The Y. M. C. A. gave a reception and oyster supper at their rooms, Wednesday evening. The Ladies of St. Luke's church gave a reception to Bishop Davies Monday eve. at the Rectory. Mr. James Wilcox has withdrawn from the flrm of Loughridge & Wilcox on account of poor health. An interesting meeting of the Woman's Board of Missions was held at the Episcopal church Tuesday. The Woman's State Missionary Society of the Episcopal church held their annual meeting at St. Luke's church Tuesday. Chas. Comstock of Comstock & Bro., who has been confined to the house for a number of days, with the influenza, is again at his post. Rev. H. L. Morey of the Pres. church is givinga series of black board sermons which are well attended and very interesting. The Normal Lyceum Executive Committee, have accepted the invitation from the üniversity Adelphi Society to furnish an orator and réciter for the public program to be given by that ciety and chose Mr. Fred Jeffries for orator and Miss Nina Burdick as reciter. nilan. Fuller visited Ann Arbor, Saturday on business. Mrs. Andrew Jackson has been visitïng friends at Nora. Mr. Sil verman has rented Mr. Bennett's heuse on County-gt. Mr. Whedon of Chicago visited friends in Milan over Sunday. Mr. E. E.Stewart hasgone out of business and closed his feed store. Mrs. Will Farmer and children of Toledo are visiting Milan people. Two of Milan's young ladies have opened a millinery store at Carlton. Mrs. Abigail Phillips died at her residence on Main-st, Thursday Jan. 16. Mrs. S. Hack has a new sidewalk in front of her premises on County-st. The post office store is being cleaned and painted all fresh and new for business. Mrs. A. Haydenleft for Toledo Thursday. She will visit friends there a few days. Mrs. Monroe is through with her auction sales, and the goods are all cleared out. The Presbyterian young people are talking of an interesting entertainment in the near future. Ten Xights in a Bar Room is to be played at the opera house by the Millaney & Creed company, Tuesday evening. Dlxboro. Mr?. Ed. Stuart is on the sick list. Influenza has several victims in this vicinity. The roads are in badcondition around here. The Ladies' Aid Society meet at Miss Mattie Pringle's, Friday. A pleasant time reported. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Tounsand entertained a party of youngfriends Monday evening. " La grippe " shortened the teacher's roll of honor here. The employees of Hamby's sawmill are idle. Kough roads are not good for transporting logs. Ourcitizens are beginning to think that their ice houses will be for rent next surnmer. Mrs. Wm. Parker is recovering from a severe attack of scarlet fever, under the skillful care of Dr. J. II. Lemen. Stony Creek. E. B. Stone lost a horse last week. Scarlet fever is reported in district No. 1. Mrs. Mary Crane of Ypsilanti visited her aunt, Mrs. Harper, Sunday, Miss Nellie Talladay entertained Miss Southworth of Flat Rock recent ly. Mrs. Harper entertained her sister, Mrs. Blackmer, of North Adams last week. Grant Miller of North Dakota, formerly of this place, is visiting his aunt, Mrs. Ridner Minzay. Mrs. Smith, a much respected colored lady near Whittaker, was buried from the M. E. church last Friday. The la grippe is said to be the cause of her death.
