Last ttill wben Messrs. Haailton, Rose and Sheehan first platted tbe ground foulh of tbe city, with the eiptctation oí .Helling it for building lots to tbe people bere, their écheme was looked upon by outsiders aa wild, viaionary and impracticable. Those who looked upon it in tbis light a few moaths ego, are already couvinced of their error and now see that thia m w subdivisión is bound to prove a boom to the city and a scurce of pro6t to its owners. During the past ten yeara tbe pnce of property has advanced so rapidly ia the first and sixth wards that mea of moderate means could not afibrd to purchase ar.d build. As a matter of fact, at the present time tbere are but few desirable lots in ihe vicinity of the university that can be purchased. To meet tlua want the new addition was platted. The plat lies just one-half raile pouth of the university and one and one-third miles from the court house. The piece contains forty-five acre, which ha been divided into eleven bloclcs, containing 167 lots, 25 of which u-e within the city limita. Tbe land which last fall appeared damp and uahealthy, bas been so thoroughly drained by a thorough system of draia-pipes that it is now as dry a any part of the city. One of the great advantages to tbis new addition, will be the large paik, containing eight and one halt acres, which will be located in the center. Tuis park is to be the pride of this section of the county, and the owners are sparing no expense upon it. Over 500 trees have been set out in the prk already, and the drive-wars, winding in all direction, are now bei' g lail out A doublé road, with a row of maples betweea, leads around the park, and the main entrance will be ornamented by a handsome arc-hway, to be constrncted of boulders. The plan provides for an arti ficial lake in the center, a fountain near bv, and beds of flowers in all direciions, all of which will be done. One beauty of this addition is the wide avenues which bve been laid out, none of which are lesa than four roda in width, with rows of young trees on both sides. The 8treets running north and south are tbe continuations of Tbayer and IngMIs s8 and East University-ave, Sast Park Place coming in between : The east ai.d west streets are Nortb Park Place, Roseave and Henry-st. Already eighteen lois have been sold, and this section promises to be one of the greate-t for building, this sumtner. The owners have already contracied for the erection ot four modern houses on Statest, at a cost of $2,500. A fine brick house is to be built on the same streel, and the contracts have been Iet for two others, making seven in M that will be built at once. When the street railwny company geta ín a s-pur to tbis place, it will be very desirable property for residencea. _ ._
