Dr. Caldwell requejtt d Jewell s manager to permit him to examine the booka. He was told that that could not be done until Mr. Jewell return d. Waen the latter got back stveral demands were made for the books, but Jewell succeeded in staving the exmïnation off until it was tco late, and the books were gone. When his game was discovered, an attempt whs made !o intercept him, but in vain. It is said he has not pettled anytbing, and will most assuredly ntitsssume the mangment of the ho'.el again."
