The Ann Arbor Argus, some weeks since, had an article seeming to favor Banker Cook.of Hillsdale,as a Democrat candidate for Congress. Tho Times noted this fact, and as a chronieler of the news of the day, stated the further fact that down this way the proposition was to nomínate Mayor Bean, and we added the thought it looked "a trifle queer to see the Argus engineering a Cook boom." Subsequently the editor of the Argus paid Adrián a visit, and if he did not requently run across the Bean boom ïere all we can say is that the soft soporific influences that have environed lim in Ann Arbor have robbed him of he keen scent for news, and the aptness for political diagnosis, which were haracteristic ofhimwhen hesojourned ïereabouts. But if he failed to steer entirely clear of the Bean boom, it ooks certain that it failed to encompass him, as witness the following from bis japer : "Why does it look a trifle queer? [Engineering he Cook boom.J "The Argus does not understand that Lenawee ays claim to the congressional nomination, or nat Mayor Bean is a candidate Is there any resaon why a Hillsdale man should uot be menioned iu conncction vith the congressioual ïomiuation, or a Monroe or Washtenaw man for hat matter ? The democracy fortunately do not care so much for county lines as to aliow such divisions to iuterfere wi.h the cholee of stmng candidates, but if they did a l.enawee candidate would be out of the question, especially a new one. Lenawee has furnlshcd the democratie candidate for the last flve congressioual elections, and in that time three different men have borne he banner to victory or defeat. We repeat, the nly proposition to nomínate Mayor Bean, that ïas' come to our ears.has been that of the republican Times. The Mayor is a good democrat, and we doubt if he Hkes that kind of a sponsor lor ïis political aspirations." Hush my babe, be still and slumber. If y ou didn't hear the booming of he Bean while you were in Adrián you ïad cotton in your ears continually. Again, The Times bas not proposed to nomínate Mayor Bean, and does not ropose to. But it is fact that it is latent to everyone here, who is not ïaturally or purposely blind and deaf, hat a large number of tried and true iemocrats are working and will work to uive our Mayor the nomination for Congress in this district. Moreover, The Toces has no idea of tanding sponser for Mayor Bean, and we have no notion that he desires it for a godfather. We had supposed the Argus was newspaper euough to know he difference between stating a fact and expressing an opinión. According o its theory if it prints the fact that a mrglary bas been committed it makes tself acoparcener with the burglar. Some months since, before Brother Seakes began wearing cotton in his ears, there were little birds twitteriug hrough the district - " Beakes for Conress." Can it be that this little song iounded to him so sweet that he at nce clapped cotton in his ears and bas een since deafto all other siren songs? Else why did he fail, on his recent visit to Adrián, to hear the thunder of he boom for Bean ?
