Sheriff Dwyer and Deputy Peterson have done another good pieoe of detective work. A week ago Sunday night, a horse was stolen frote Geo. MoCormick, o] Salem. The officers immediately went to work to investígate the matter, but for some time could find no clue to the thief. Su8picion, however, rested on a certain Jno. Krone, who had worked for Mr. McCormick irom May 3 tö July 12. Krone had been in the vicinity of Salem on the day of the robbery and in the evening he drove away with a farmer aamed Clementg. On Wednesdav he carne to Ann Arbor and registered at one of the hotels as "J. HarringtoD." Depuiy Sheriff Peterson shadowed him and wheo he left the city Thursday morning followed him. The suspected horse-thief took the train for Hamburg, changed cars for Stockbridge and írom that place walked abeut fifteen miles to a región northwest of Fowlerrille. Finally, on Friday eveníng, a farmer was inductd 10 hire Krone, and tbe latter remained at the farm-house all night. On Saturday morning Sheriff Dwyer, with a view to íollowing up a clue whioh he had reoeived, took the tram for Toledo, subsequently returning Dorth as ar a Dundee. Near (hat place he ceeded in findini? the missing horae aud id coll.-ct.ing enough evidence to warrant the arrest of Krone. He immediately ttlegraphed to Peterson, who cxptured tt.e man as ha was driviug away with the farmer who had hired him. The suspected horsethief was brought to Ann Aibor and I on Monday morning was given a hearing before Justice Pond, but owing to a lai k of evidence the regular examination w; s pop'poned till to-day. Krone wa9 brought before Justice Pond at nine o'clock tnis morning. Sardius Wilkina, wbo lives six miles east ot Dundee. identified him as havine nassed bis residence with McCormiek's horse, the afterncon after the rnbberj. A. Covert testifipd that he saw Krone going towards Mr. McCormick's place the night the horse was stolen, and others stated that they hd seen Krone in the vicinity duriog the day. Further examination was posponed until next Monday morning. A farmtr living near Alb-oa told Depaty S.ieriff Peterson that when Krone worked in bat vicinity some f'our or five years go, he was cor.sidered a very desperate character.
