Simi.a. April 84.- Information has reached bere that the liritkh columns advaneing on Manlpnr onder Generala Lockhart and Turner reached a large nativo aettlement situated in the Bhagri valley. The liritish halted when within sig-ht of the vHlement and sou', scouts forward to inform the Manipuris that the Britlsh generáis were awaiting proposala ot peaco fiom the Insurgeni tribes. The rebels, bowever, refused to aaawer this peaceable soggestion, and oonsequently the troops trare ordered to advanco. Britlah eolmnna pushed forward and trarned twelve villagcs which had been occupied by the rebels. The latter In gpreat torce retreated to thehills. The British f oree then helled the hills with shrapnel] shells, killing ing and vrou&dÍDg huye immbers of the enemy. The latter in now believed to have U-ci cúmplete] oowed.
