St. Louis, Sept. 88.- A decided shock of earthquake was feit in St Louis at 10:50 Saturday night. It was particularly noticeable in the central portion of the city aid in the north i and west ends. On West I'ine street ! it was noticed that the shock lasted two minutes. lts greatest force was reached during the first minute, after which it became less and less noticeable until it died out. It is said that the shock feit here was similar to that experienced on the nightof the Charleston disaster. It seemed to move from south to north. It was not long after the shock before inquines and reports concerning the earthquake began fiowing into the newspaper offices. It seems that the shock was general and that the vibrations were slow, but noticeable and distinct. People were awakened from sleep, particularjy in the west end, and rtished to the street in their night clothes. At East St. Louis the shock was distinctly feit. Many people were aroused from their slumbers and in a few moments the streets were filled with people. No damage has as yet been reported, but the whole city feit the quakioff of the earth. At Gillespie, 111., the shock was feit very distinctly. The wave was from the southeast to northwest. At Decatur, 111., the vibration was from east to west and lasted several seconds. It ehook doors and windows all over town and awoke people who had already retired. No damage resulted, but a great many people were badly frighteied. At Greenville, 111., the shock was so violent in its nature as to cause brick buildings to tremble. A laj'ge proportion of the inhabitants were aroused from their slumbefs. The shock lasted fully a jninute. At Xenia, 111., brick houses swayed on their foundations, while frame d welling) rocked to and fro. Piaster was knoeked from the ceilings and vases and pictures were thrown from the walls. Windows ruttled violently and the circuit eonrt in session was temporarily interrupted. There were two distinct oscillationg, closely followlnff eaeh other, and the vibration lasted fully one minute in each case. The directíon appeared to be from southeast to northwest. Buildings were shaken, windows and stoves ratt.ed, and suspended electric lights sv.ii, (1 sharply. No damage was done. The shock appears to have been general throujrbont this section. Mount Pulaski reports a heavy shock. At Jacksonville the shock was lighter tkan here, while at Lincoln it was mop severe. The shock was feit distinctly at Bloomington, Uecatur, Peoria, Mount Vernon and many other points. Chicago, Sept. 28. - Saturday night' earthquake shock was feit in this city. While the shock was not severe, it was noticeable in different sections of the city. Other Illinois points where it was feit were Ualesburg. Vandalia, Albion, Sullivan, Pittsfield, Koopeston, Moweaqua, Mattoon, Paria, Nwhville, llillsboro, Shelbyville, Virginia and Warsaw. INSIANAPOI.18, Ind., Sept. 28. - Indianapolis was visited by a distinct shock of earthquake Saturday night. VlNCENNKS, Ind., Sept. 28. - A very perceptible earthquake was feit here at 11 o'clock Saturday night and people in the hotels and saloons rushed into the streets much alarmed, and persons were aroused from their slumbers. Buildings vibratedand windows rattled and contiuueil fully thirty seconde. The shake was feit at Evansville, 01ney, Washington and various places ia this neighborhood. The freight depot rocked to and fro so plainly that the men rushed from the building. NO damage is reported. COLUMBUS, hul.. Sept. 28.- At a few minutes betore 11 o'cloek Saturday night the shock of earthquake was feit here. Large rockers in residences swayed to and fro, lamps were overtumed from stands and many of the inhabitants rushed from their dwellings into the streets. In the city hospital patients were panic stricken, while in the county jail prisoners were frightened almost to death and soine of thend ipto prayer. Southern Indiana mever experienced such a shock before. Louisvili.k, Ky. , Sept. 28. - Loi)isville had a good shaking Saturday night. A severe earthquake shock was feit at 10:53, and, although no serious damage was done, it caused considerable excitement all over the city. The bell in the city hall tower was rung by the vibrations of the building and the. watchman in the tower thougt his last hour had come. At the (!alt house and other hotels the bells were. fung, waterpitchers were overturned u the upper stories and gnests came hurrying downstairs !n a panic, it requlring much persuasión to induce the more timid to return to their quarters. Bever] di"uj? tores suffered ;i slight loss from broken bottles and prematurely mixed drugs. In the residence part of the city the shoek cansed much alarm, the people rushing into the street, and when the shock snbsided formed long ranks oi excited groups anxiously discussing the probabilitiea of a reemrence of the qiiake. Keokuk, Ia,, Sept. ia.- Three distinct shocks of earthquake were feit in this city about 11 o'clock Saturday night. The damage done in this city and the surrounding country was not 6eriouï, su far as learned.
