Hallowe'en passed off without the witches acting up very badly. To be sure, the aid of many prophetic f piiits were invoked at the different Hallowe'en parties, while girls peeped tremblingly into looking glasses and boys eowed hemp eeed in the dark. The Catholic fair will be held in Light Quard Hall from December 8 to 16 and bids fair to be a great succeas. The Ladies' Library association are giving a series of entertainments to help bring in the shekels. Mrs. Ellen Murphy's thimbles, which were on display at the library building, were very unique and interesting. Prof. Springer, of the Cleary college, is trying to snatch around afoot ball team outof thecrowdof youngsters in that institution. One of our firma has an Egyptian mummy on display, which is evidently a real, "fresh" specimen. It attracts much attention, and many curious questions from people who evidently have heretoforesupposed mummies were chiefly an article of food.
