The University Inspected
Last Friday the Univei'sity waa subjected to legislative inspeclion. Messrs. Doran, MacLaugbliu and Hopkins of the senate committee and Mr. Moore of the house commiltee made an ofhcial descent upon the institution accompanied by representative Sherman of Corunna. Regents Cocker.Cook, Whitman, Barbour and Kiefer, assisted president AngelĂ in the task of reception and elucidation. The various department buildings, hospitals, laboratories and the gerui of a gymnasium were duly investigated in turn. The ladies of the University and of the alumnae association improved their opportunity to press tlie matter of the ladies' wing to the "gym.' A committee ofabout twenty ladies met the legislators in the ladies' waiting rooms and Mis. Walker preented their case in eloqueut terms. In a shoit and briliant uit with Senator Hopkins, bhe downetlher adversary with expert facility. He ventured to buggest ihat a home for feeble ininded children was rather more important to the state of Michigan than a ladies' aymnasmm,and found himself assured that the latter institution would shortly reiuler ihe former unnecessary. Prebident and Mrs. AngelĂ entertained the visitors and regent3 ai supper with the deuns of ihe various departments. The committee seemed impressed with the fact that the requests of the regeul'j memorial were very reat-onable.
