Aecording to the report of Secretary Rask on the operations of the bureau of animal industry for the year 1892, laid before the Senate Jan. 5, the work of stamping out pleuro-pneumonia has been carried on as rapidly as possible under the prevailing conditions of the country, and the diaease has completely disappeared. " The scope of this branch of the work of the bureau has, thf refore," Secretary Kusk adds, "been complete. And this dangerous and much-dreaded disease bas been eradicated from our soil and the United States is the first of the large nations of the world which, liaving been extensively affected, has been able to coinpletely extírpate it. The time required was only about five years, and the total expenditure a little in excess of $1,500,000.
