Miss Cora Crandell closed her nine mouths term of school on Friday last with a very nice picuic on the banks of the Hurón river with a large attendance of scholars and friends of the school. After partakingof agood dinner they spent the afteruoon playing croquet and boat riding on the river. WHITMORE LAKE:-P1cii!cb; Personáis; l'cnllis. Children's Day exercises will be given in the M. E. church next Suuday eve. Miss Euglish and Mr. Severance of South Lyoii, visited fnends here Sunday. A unión Sunday School picnic will be held in the grove at this place on Sat. June 24ih. The I. O. G. T. lodge of Washtenaw District will hold a unión picnic at this place on the 17th. Mr. Bodine donated the grove. GMiss Lillian Lombard has been severely ili for the past week. Dr. Sinith is atteuding her. At the I. O. G. T. meeting last Friday eve. Miss Jones and a young gentleman from Ann Arbor were present. We all niourn with Mr. and Mrs. Welsh thesadlossoftheirthree months old daughter who died on Saturday of blood poisoning after two weeks iilness. The remains were taken to the Caiüolic church. Died, at her home, on Monday, Mrs. Gtót. She had been couliued to her bed for iiine years. The funeral took place oa Thursday at the Catholic church. Last week Miss Copeland of Dexter, was the guest of Miss Ida Kenny. Misses Turnbull and Anspach of Ann Arbjr visited fnends here ihis week. Charles Chamberlain has retuned from the art school of New York City and reports a profltable year. Next Sunday communion services will be held at the Congregational church. Prof. D'Ooge of Ann Arbor is ecpected. The Webster Farmer's Club tneets this week at Mr. Brockway's and discusses the question of Benetits of Farmer's Organizations. Ttie Webster Reading Circle meets this week with Mrs. Scadin. It has now procured new catalogues for its library, which ia getting quite extensive. The Y. P. S. C. E last Sunday evening elected the following officers: Ray McColl, pres.; Dor Qaeal, vice-pres.; Millie McColl, recorduifr sec; Walter Tubbs, treasurer; Mary Blodgett, organist. The following committees were also provided for:- Prayer meeting, lookout, social, Sunday school, musii:, and welcome. Thursday occured the sale of shorthorn cattle at the place of W. E. Boyden, one and one-half miles north of Delhi Mills. J. A. Mann of Linsing, was the auctioneer of tne sale. The stock sold has rarely been excelled in breeding and individual merit. A goedly number of sight seers thronged the building to gaze upon thenobleanimals as they were brought in and stricken off by the auctioneer'd hammer to the highest bidder. The average per liead was about $90. The whole sale amounted to $2,700. Among those from alwoad were Mr. Gibbons of Detroit, Mr. Avery of Alpena, and Mr. Aitken of Oakland.
