SENATE. Washington, March 29.- Resolutions were introduced in the senate yesterday usking the secretary of war whether subordínate employés and laborers engaged by engineer officers have been employed or discharged for political reasons; dirocting the tinance commitee to prepare a bilí for the repeal of all laws authorizing the secretary of the treasury to issue bonds or other interestbearing obligations without specific authority, and one calling for information regarding changes made in the weight or fineness of silver coins of silver standard countries. A bilí to providefor the free and unlimited coinage of silver was introduced by Mr. Stew art, of Nevada. Washington, March 80. - The pension appropriation bill was reported to the senate yesterday and the house joint resol ution appropriating $10,000 additional to carry out the provisions of the Chinese exclusión act and the McGarrahan land claim bill were passed. Washington, April 3. -Senator Voorhees (dem., Ind.) opened the tariff debate in the senate yesterday and in nis speech denounced the protective system of tariff taxation. The nominations of Thomas E. Washington, March 29.- In the house yesterdaj an attemptto discuss the two election cases of O'Neill vs. Joy and English vs. Hilborn showed the lack of a quorum. Washington, March 30.- The president's messag-e vetoingf the Bland silver seia-nioracre bill was received by the house yesterday. No business was trunsacted. Washington, March 31. - In the house yesterday Mr. lUaud gave notice that on Tuesciay next he would move to pass the seigniorage bill over the veto. No business was transacted. Washington, April 2. - Bills were introduced in the house Saturday for the free and unlimited coinage of silver dollars of 413% grains and for an additional district judge for the Northern district of Illinois. The river and harbor bill was reported, and the remainder of the day was devoted to eulogies upon the life, eharacter and public services of the late Representative O'Neill, of Pennsylvania. Washington, April 8. - In the house yesterday a f ruitless attempt was made to secure a quorum in order to bring the Joy contested election case to a close.
