crot ballot at tonight when i. candidato for senator Patton's soat ii the U. S. senato, will be chosen is certainly a winning stroke for the Olds men. Whether or not it will result In giving the nomination to Olds cannot. of eourse, be told. One thing is certain, it will greatly enhance his chances. The poor people of the eily will certainly rejoice at the reduetion in the price of bread. If, it reach the three cent basis, it would be at a point whero a grcat many less people would noed to go hungry this winter than otherwise would be forced to do. A drop of 40 por cent. in the cost of the statf of life would certainly place it in abundance within the reach of all. The situation at Lansing in the senatorial contest grows more and more interesting as the time for holding the eaucus, cspecially for the short term senator, approaches. The eontest, however, is different from almost all the former contests for senatorial honors in this state, in that.so far,it has been almost, if not entirely, devoid ofjany bitter feelings among the principáis or their supporters. We regret to learn that Mr. E. J. Smith. who has practically been "The Ar'"" fQr the past six months has severed hls conneetion vvith that paper. Mr. Smith has no other business in viewjust now, but will probably be a (;hair in some newspaper office in Michigan at no disíant day. In the loss of Mr. Smith from its ranks, the newspaper fraternity of Ann Arbor looses one of its most veraatile and brainy men.
