A most horrible accident occurred atlsiher Lake, Lake eounty, Ore. . ut a Christmaa entertainment in which 41 persons were burned to death and 10 badly injured, tive of wlioiu wül die. A large crowd luid assembled in Christman Bros.' hall to attend a Christmas tree festival. While the festivittes were at tlieir heignt, Bome one climbed on a bench from ivhirli point he espected to get a better view of wluit was going on. In doing so his head struck a lamp hanging from the celling, overturning it. The oil immediately caught fire and evci-vthing in room being dry and of an inllainmable nature, the room was soon a mass of flames. The confusión was so great that the people began scrainbling in a wild endeavor to reach the door. Women and children were trampled under foot and as there was only one exit to the hall and the fire being between the majority of the crowd and the door many rushed headlong into the flames. Sil ver Lake is a small village in Lake eounty, Orejjon, of about 100 inhabitants and it is 150 miles from the nearest telegraph office.
