The Deaconessos' Home at Cleveland ivas (lestroyt-d ly fire and the follow'mg were burned to death: Wm. Allmeyer. Minnie liaumer, Wal ter Clark and .Jacob Kranse. The fire istarted in the basement. Brave work by fireraen and pólice alone prevented a further loss of life. The flames gained considerable headway before the persons on the third floor could escape. It was then too late to descend the stairs. Minnie liaumer, one of the nurses, appeared at an upper vvindow and appealed to those belovv to help rescue her patiënt, Allmeyer. All saw that it would Se folly to attempt to enter ihe building and cried to her to save herself by jumping, but she would not leave her patiënt and so died at her post of duty. Later. - From testitnony at the inquest on the disaster it seems that an explosión preceded the fire and that the explosión was caused by a bomb placed in the hospital with felonious ihtent.
