Washington, May 21.- The direct loss in crops, the damage to machinery and stock and the decrease in the valué of land due to weeds in this country amounts to tens of millions of dollars a year, aecording to the estímate of Botanist F. V. Colville of the agricultural department. The statement is made in a bulletin of the department, whlch siiys the loss is gustalned altnóst wholly by the farmers. The bulletin embodies a number of important directions for weed eradlcatlon and urges tlint these methoda be incorporated ín the system of practical farmlng.
