John Herkenbine, the iron ore expert of Philadelphia. has prepared for the_ división of mineral resources of the Cnited States geological survey an oxhaustive report of the iron ore resources of the world in whieh the produetion of the world of ore or iron in 18U3 is estimated at about 82,500,000 long tons. The portion of th is report relative to tlie United States shows that the total production of iron ore in this country in L894 was 11,870,079 long tons, as compared with 11,587,629 long tons in 1S93. Twenty-four states produced iron ore in 194, in amount from 4,419.074 tonsin Michigan to 7,915 tons from Maryland. Most of I the increase noted above was in the ' Lake Superior región. .Michigan ! tinues to be the largest producer, holding this rank for six yèars. In spite of the increase in production noted, the total value of the product was but $13,577,325, or 81.14 a ton, as compared ! with 819,205,973, or fl.üö a ton. in ;893. Michigan also leads the countrv in value of her iron ores. Hancock Chemical Works Blown Up. For the third time in two years tlie Hancock Chemical works, at Dollar Bay blew up.
