An old and highly respccted citi'on vas lost to Ann Arbor this morning when Joal P. Stimson, of the flrm of J. D. Stimson & Son. grocers, passed away at his home on W. Huron st., where he has residcd most of the time since he carne to the city. Mr. Stimson had been ailinir for a long time 'rom a heart trouble whieh iinally turned into dropsy, from which he died Shis morning at 6 o'clook aged Vi years. Mr. Stimson was born in Tollan'J, Conn., in 1822. He carne to Ann Arbor 12 years ayo, and eng-ag;cd in farminguntil 1 1 ; years ago when he went into the groeery business with his son Wm. F. Stimson, on E. Ann st. Seven years ago he sold out his aliare in business and went into the same line of trade on S. State st., in partnership with his son George. He was married to Miss Mary Sutton, of Cobourg, Ont., March 31, 1847, and flhe with 10 of the 12 children that were born to them survivo him. Five of his sons reside in this city, viz.: Wm P., Philip M., Pred T., George G., and Joal D. jr. John Lires in Toledo, and Milton R. in Brinkley, Ark. Mrs. Fannie Hawkes lives in Hudson. Mrs. Minnie Matthews in Lansing, and Mrs. Mabel Bailey in Howell.- Thursday's Times. The funeral services were held at his late residence on W. Huron st. Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. C. M. Cobern and were largely attended. The pallbearers were C. H. Worden, J. W. Booth, A. J. Mummery and Judson Warner. The reraains were buriod in Porest Hill cemetery.
