Juliua A. Palmer, who went to the Ifawaiian islands to investígate as special correspondent of the New York Evening Post. re turn e cl to San Francisco on the Australia. He belieyes that there will soon be a crisis there, and tiiat the entl can only be tho restoration of the monarchial form of goverumeut, lle says there never will be harmony nu til the monarchy is restored and Princesa Kaiulani placed upon the tiirone. The greatest fear of the Hawaiian governraent is .lapan and they do not scruple to say so. Another danger to the government is in themselves. The democracy, or American league, is taking umbrage at the new importation of Chinese. The linancial condition is al.so one of the thing-s that will help to bring on a crisis. The loyalty of the natives to monarchy was never as strong as now. Col Ashford, former attorney-general of llawaü. who arrived on the same steamer, expresses similar views. A San Francisco paper prints a story, which it claims is fromunquestionable authority. to the effect that ex-U. S. Minister Thurston advocates a change in administration, and that at a recent conference between Mr. Thurston and President Dole and members of the cabinet, the former deelared that the only hope of permanent peace on the islands will be realized in placing Prineess Kaiulani in tlie position which the former monarchy proposed that she should some day have.
