h f? ■ e u- No definite news haS yet been received here in regard to the latest report eoncerning the fate of the missionaris at Cheng Tu, capital of the province of Szchuen, western China who are said to have been masacred. It is known, however, that serious rioting occurred reeently at Cheng Tu, but affairs there have since been reported quiet, althoueh th rinHn. „. spreading in the country southward Washington. June ll.-The Chinese eg-ation has recsived no Information as to the reported massacre of all missionaries ín Chen-Tu, and hopes are entertained that the affair may be less senous than the meager reports Indícate. It is stated at the legation tl.at Chen-Tu is a large city in the interior of China. The people are far removed from the centers of foreign commerce such as Cantón and Shanghai. Recently, however, by the treaty of peace with Japan this interior city was one of several places to be opened to foreigners and foreig-n commerce.
