Tvo er thvee months ago, when appointed Poitn: aster of this town, we mentio-. .-f, tbe fací that the tri-weekly mails fruui Lone Jack, Pine Hill and Dog Creek reaehed this postoffice in the most erratic manner and evidently at the convenience of the mail carrier, says a Western exchange. We promised to look into the matter as soon as we got things in hand, and last Tuesday afternoon, as the Lone Jack mail, j dué at IJ o'clock a. m., had not arriyed ! at midafternoori, we mounted Qur ' use and set out to investígate. This route is carried on horsebaek, and the name of the carrier is Simms. We found Mr. Simms luxuriously reclining undw a tree about four miles from tO"'n. Iïs Was l'jxuricuslv Hrmilr anA sound asleep, while his old horse had shaken the mail bag off hls back and was stamping on it with his hlnd feet. Mr. Sirams. Ig a Vei y sober man lust nów, bui we doubt if he has any clear remembrance of a tsnth part of what happened to him dnring the ten minutes followlcg our arrival. All he can remember is cf being struck by a cyclone, whieh lifted him up and tossed him into the earth. He was a hard man to wake up, but when he got his eyes open and began to realize the situation he didn t wtófe much time pettlng onto his horse vith hir! mail bag and heading for town. On his next trip he carne in an hour ahead of time and we understand he intends to do better than that. Somo day this week we shall look into the delay on other routes. For weeks past tne Pine Hill mail has been from six to ten hours late on every occasion and we shnll make a great effort to discover the cause and remove it. It is our duty as postmaster to see that the mans arrive and depart on time and we feel quile certain that our manner of "expejitlng" the service will meet with the approval of both our fellowf.ownsrren snd the postal authorities at Washington.
