Beginning next Tuesday there will be held in Ann Arbor one of the most important conventions that has ever convened here. It will be the Fortieth Annual Convention of the Detroit Conference of the M. E. church. This conference embraces all the eastern portion of the state and has within its borders over three hundred ministerial charges. It is expected that all the ministers representing these places will be in attendance. It is also estimated that fully three hundred and fifty lay delegates will be here to attend the session. These lay delegates attend the annual conference, only once in every four years. Several matters of unusual importance will come up to be acted upon at the meeting next week. The conference will continue from Tuesday evening until Saturday afternoon. We give below the program for the week in full. Tuesday, Sept. 10-7-8 p. m., informal reception to all the members of the conference by the official board: 8 p. m., lecture. "What a tramp saw in the Emerald Isle," Rev. J. F. Berry, of Chicago. Wednesday- 9 a. m., opening of the first day's sessionof conference ; 2 p. m., semi-centennial sermón, Rev. Seth Reed ; 3 p. m. , visit to the University buildings; 7:30 p. m , anniversary of superannuated ministers' aid society, to be addresscd by Rev. Dr. Whittaker, of Detroit. Thursday - Forenoon, business session : 2. p.m., anniversary of W.F.M. S , sermón by Miss Mary A. Danforth, missionary from Japan : 8 p. m., educational anniversary, tobeaddressed by Pres. Fiske and Dr. Edwards. This will be folloA'ed by consecration of deaconesses. Friday- Forenoon, business session, 2 p. m.. anniversary of W. H. M. S. to be addressed by Prof. Henrietta Baneroft, of Albion college : 5 p.m., f ree organ recital at University Hall, on Celumbian organ; 7:30 p. m . annivorsary Freedman's Aid Society, addressed by Rev. J. C. Hartzell, D. D. The lay electoral conference meets on this day. Saturday - Forenoon, business session: 2 p. m., Epworth League anniversary, to be addressed by Dr. Schell and Dr. Barry; 7 p.m., church extensión anniversary missionary society, address by Rev. A. B. Leonard, D. D. ; Rev. Dr. Keen, of Delaware, ühio, will conduct Pentecostal services at i p. m. every afternoon of the conference weck.
