Th& statistics regarding the movement of the precious metáis present some points of interest. The exports of gold for the month of August, exclusive of ore, amounted to $16,667,261, an increase of over $11,500,000, as compared with those for the corresponding month of last year. The imports for the month were valued at $1,507,479, a decrease of over $1,600,000 as compared with those for August of 1894. The exports exceeded the imports in both months, the excess being $15,159,782 in August, 1895, and $1,935,303 in August, 1894. For the eight months ending with August the exports amounted to $55,766,217, which was almost $34,500,000 less than for the corresponding period of the preceding year. The imports amounted to $28,063,876 in the eight months of 1895, as compared with $16,035,750 in eight months of 1894. For both periods the exports showed an excess over the imports, but whereas this excess amounted to $74,233,281 in eight months of 1894, it araounted to only $27,702,341 in eigbt months of 1895.
