Danige, oí Br4ux. bvic obtatned posseealon of three samples of yellow powder used by oertain milkmen at Bordeaux to preserve their milk, made a chemloal analysis of it This analyals showed that two of the powders were composed wholly of neutral chromate of -potash, and the thlrd was a mxlture of one part of blchromatO of potash and two parta of neutral enrómate, and that the avapected milk had been adultórated wltk the last substance in the proportlon of 0.30 gm. to the liter (5 gralns to tte quart). The alkaline chromates are, in fact, powerful antiseptics, capabla, even in vnall quant ities of retarding laotic fermentation very noticeably, If not of stopping it completely. But bcauae of the perniolous actlon of thes salts on the organism they ought to b compltely excluded from food eubstances, partlcularly from milk, of whlch many young children drink
