Lwiisville, Ky., Nov. 7.- Leslie county and the missing precincls of Perry county were heard from at a lu-to j hour last night. The changos rendercd by these returns have" brc-ught the republican claims down to 345, while the democrats have increased their claims to 1,000. Official figures will undoubtedly be required to decide whether Kentucky was carried by McKinley or Bryan. It is very likely that W. B. Smith, TV'ho headed the Bryan electoral ticket, has been elected. WANTS THE POWER. Mark Hanua Proposes toKecp Hold oí the National Conimittee. Chicago, Nov. 9.- It secms the j position of both the natfonal and local republican managers is to continue the machimery of state and national I mittees. It is propcsed to keep the ! ganizations in harneas and to let the j next four years be used in rhich to "edúcate" the people up to the gold standard. This is Mr. Hanna's plan, given out by ihim in New York yesterday. He intends to put it in execution j through the Republican Leagues of Clubs, and friendly state committeee, so that when the next national convention is held the campaign work will be already cut out. On first eight the plan looks as iL it was the proper course ior the repubücans to pursue. A second and more penetrating glance indica tes, however, a deeper interest upon the part of the originator, and one which will raise "hop," ae the saying I is with the politicians. It is merely the first step of the j naites to perpetúate their grasp upon ! the republican national machinery. It I is the initial move to name McKinley again ia four years and to continue Mr. Hanna in power. As chairman of the i nadonal executive campaign tee his office would be of no account aa ; soon as the committee breaks up. Then ! the regular chairman, Senator Matt ] Quay, would be the guiding spirit. Hanna is only at the head now, by the selection of Major McKinley, and ■when the work of the campaign is over he should retire. BLISS IS THE MAN. New Yorker Said to Bc Slated for Secrtary of the Treasury. New York, Nov. 9. - Republican local eaders say that it seems to be practically settled that Cornelius N. Bliss will be President MeKinley's secretary of the treasury. It is understood that the president-elect has expressed a desire that Mr. Bliss accept the treasury portfolio and is anxious that his selection shall have the approval of the republican organization in this city and state. The selection of Mr. Bliss for :his place, it was said yesterday, will not be disappointing or even unsatisfactory to the local republican organization. In his capacity as treasurer of the national committee. Mr. Bliss had to meet the local leaders frequently and friendly relations were established. So certain is one republican of national promirience that Mr. Bljss is to be the next secretary of the treasury that he said at the Fifth Avenue hotel yesterday that he had positivo information that the appointment had been tendered and accepted. Cornclius N. Bliss is ift the wholesale dry guods business ar.d is interested as a stockholder and director in severa! banks and trust companies. For eight years he has been the treasnrer of the republican national committee.
