Sing Sing, N. Y., Jan. 9.- On the flrat of the month convict labor was abolIshed in all the prisons of this state and today Frederick Hoffman, a prisoner here, while depressed from lack of employment, threw himself from a gallery where he was taking exercise to the floor, seventy-five feet below. It is thought he cannot recover. Hoffman told Warden Sage last night that he feared nis mind would give way unless he had swne work to do. He was a printer.
