The "rule of the road" in the Unite. Sates is "turn to the right;" in Eng land it is the reverse. The rule hoïcl in this country in the case where two veWcles going in opposite directio. meet. When one vehicle overtakes an other the foremost. gives way to the lef and the other passes by on the "ofl siete;" and when a vehicle is crossing the direction of another it keeps to the left and crosses in its rear. These two rules are the same in this country anri in England, and Why the rule concerning meeting vehieles should have been ehauged it is impossible to say. Wp find this poinf of difference noted by all authorities, but no reason for it is ever suggestei. Probably, as it is easier to turn to the rüit than to the left, it was adopted as the more preferable custom in some 01 the early colonies, and 1b due time becanse embodied in local law, and thus ; vas handed down tr 'ater times.
