The careless indifference of his tone showed that he feit secure in her love, and had no frar that an idle word dropped in jest woulcl precipítate anything more seri;us than a lovers' quarrel - a mere tr:fle, which a honeyed word and a little careas at the proper time would smooth over in a moment.
