Dexter had an excitmg firo alarm Tuesday night and Ed. Croaken's dry goods store was damaged about $1,000. A lamp exploded about midnight and atarted the fire which was not discoverod until half an hour later, when Mrs. Stebbins who has charge of the hotel next door was awakened by smoke. The fire was burning slowly but had gained considerable headway by this time and throatened to destroy tile whole block. An alarm was given at once, about two hundrsd men were soon on thé scène and by hard work succeeded in putting out the fire. The fire department of this city was called up but it proved unnecessary for them to go to the scence.
