Owing to his cruel treatment Mrs. Lestev L. Burton, of Flint, commenced suit foi' divorce from her husband ia August, and ajso made criminal coraplaiat against him for assault and battery. Upon his promise to leave tlie city and not molest the woinau any more Justiee Swayzee allowed Burton to g-o. He went to Chicago, but returned two weeks ago and stopped at j the Dayton house, whleh his wifo was ! managing. He manifested his insane jealousy on several occasions and finally worked himself up to the point of coininittmg morder. Walking into I the hotel parlor whcre Mrs. liurton I was talking to a friend the husband pulled a revolver, and without a word began firing at his wil'e, sending three bullets into her body, one of which I was fired after the poor woman had fallen deaii upon the üoor. The sound of the shooting and the screams soon attracted the boarders and servaats oí the hotel to the scène, when Burton ran into the bedroom adjoining the parlor, threw himself upon his back upon the bed and sent a bullet through his temple in ihe presenco of a dozen people. One shot was suffieient, as he was dead in less than half a minute after the shot was 8red. Burton was 46 yearsof age he served through the war, having enlisted when I but 14 years old; he was a lawyer for several years, but gave up his practice when threatened with being disbarred for alleged crooked work. Mrs. Burton was a pretty blonde, aged 32, and well-liked for her genial, sunny disposition. They had been married IS years and two children survive.
