Nearly three hundred old graduates came in from various surrounding cities Saturday to attend the foot ball frame between the 'Varaity team and the old players who are now Alumni. The crowd carne largely from Detroit, Chicago, Grand RĂ¡pida and Toledo and represented a number of classes. One name on the Alumni register having '56 after it. A short meeting was held by the visitoi's and others in the old chapel hall and some rousing speeches were made. One man said "I have attended every Chicago game since '80 and I'ra going to see Michigan win this fall though she will have to work hard to do it for Chicago has a fine taam." The game was a surprise to all concerned. The 'Varsity team was looked upon as a winner but was not iu it with the old men who have won honor for the U. of M. in former years. The old men were too f ast for the 'Varsity and put more snap and vim into the game than did the latter. When the game ended the score stood 15 to 0 in favor of the old graduates. Just what the effect of the game upon the team will be is as yet hard to teil. Most of the foot ball authorities say it must be good as it will give them a lot more knowledge of the game. Eacli 'Varsity player came up agaicst a star in nis own .particular position and had a chance to see his own defeets. In this way they learned a great deal and this week's coaching has been i' largely devoted to perfecting this ' knowledge. Then, too, the defeat will take out of the players any tendancy they may have had to be over continent and will make them see the necessity for hard work in order to win from Chicago.
