Henry Georffe, the famous single tax advocate and anti - Tammany Democratie candidato Eor mayor oL Greater New York, dled very suddenly of apoplèxy, at 5 a. m. at the Union Square hotel. Mr. George had been mak a very vigoröus canvass and his f ollowing was growing stronger every day so that he had become a great factor in the inayoralty contest. The nk;ï.t preoeding Mr. George's death he had made several campaign speeches and retnrned to the hotel about 11 o'clock. Af ter a light lunch he went to bed, but about 3:30 he awoke and complained of a severe pain. He at once beeame unconscious, f rom which condition he did not recover. The Thomas Jelïer.son democracy (anti-Tammany) promptJy substituted the name of ilenry George, Jr., for the name of his father, Hein y George, as candidate for mayor of Greater New York. The election law of New York provides explictly for the tilling of vacancies on tickets.
