The BÍitish forces have again met with disaster at the hands of the insurgent tribesmen in northern India. ïhree regiments and two batteries of artillery were sent out on a reconnoissance, found the enemy, but were forced to retire upon the main body, the moTcmeut being attended with serious losses. The tribesmen followed the column in strong force, swarminjf from behind rocks and keeping up a heavy -fire at short range. The route of the retreating British was intersected with deep ravines and it was while the soldier were passing through this ground that the tribesmen rushed upon the troops, ;tearlessly making their way to close quarters. Góvernor Bushnell introduces his Thanksgivin(j proclamation as follows: The year jiiit to a close has been filled with blessings of fruitful I fields and healthful skies. Noither war nor pestilence nor disaster have come upon us. Harbingers of peace have been our morning 'joys and ; ing ben(5dictions. God has been gooil to ub as a people, and it is fitting we should publicly make ackrjowledgment of His lovingf kindness. The governor therefore desiguales Nov. 25, as the day for giving thanks.
