Victuals Humanize Him
On one of the ranches in New Mexico, Jim Ridd'.o. one of the cowboys, was of a notabl fierce and quarrelsoma disposition, saya the St. Louis Star. Bui he had a grim wit coupled with hls quarrelsome nature as well. A hearty ineal was so appreciated by Jim that it soothed and made him gentle for the time being. One week the boys were off with a herd and suffered greatly for provisions. Jim grew very sullen and troublesome. Finally, a couple of antelopes were killed and the boys prepared for a feast. Flrea were built and a grand feast inaugurated. Jim Riddle ate about a quarter of an antelope, and the harmonizing effect oí such store of victuals had its usual effect upon him. e lay back contentedly on a side hill, smiled benevolently at the boys, patted his stomach witb, his brawny right hand, and said blanaly, "A child could play with ma now."
